A Conversation with our resident floral and event Designer: Erin Rose Matkowski
How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be a floral and event designer?
- I grew up at J&M as my family’s business so I was always surrounded by flowers and talented designers. I always had passion for art and was in all higher level art programs in school, the different ways colors, shapes and textures could be combined to create something beautiful was something I always had a knack for. Then five years ago during the busy season they needed someone to make some basic tulip arrangements, they gave me some flowers and a knife and I fell in love with it and I have never looked back since!
So can you tell me how you are different from all the other floral designers out there?
- I am not someone who is going to just sit with a client write take down their order and then pass it on to a production crew. I personally oversee every aspect of the floral/ event design. Then on the day of the wedding I am not sending a driver or trusting the venue to set-up, I personally go to the set-ups to make sure that everything from lighting, to linens, to the flowers placed on the table is cohesive with the “feeling” we are creating.
Who do you work best with?
- I work best with brides that have an idea of what they want their wedding to feel like, but need help with putting together the design detains that are really going to make their wedding stand out from others.
So how does the process work?
-Basically it boils down to 3 complimentary meetings. The first is the consultation meeting where we get to know the vision the bride is looking for. The second is the sample meeting where you can see a sample of what it will look like on your wedding day. The third is the final meeting where we firm up all the last minute details and take the remaining payment.
